L’altiste Alexander Pavtchinskii est né à Kiev et effectua ses études notamment avec à l’Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia à Madrid (1999-2003) puis à la Hochschule Musik und Theater de Zurich. S’en suit des etudes d’alto avec Michael Kugel (Gent Conservatorium) qu’il termina avec la plus grande distinction. Lauréat de nombreux concours, il joua en soliste avec divers orchestra et se produit en musique de chambre avec des musiciens tels que Alissa Margulis, Nikita Borisoglebsky, Marc Bouchkov, Graf Mourja, Jacob Koranyi, Alexandre Debrus, Karin Lechner, Ronald van Spaendonck. Pincipal altiste du Kamerorkest voor Vlanderen, Prima la Musica chamber orchestra and the ensemble Timur und Sein Mannschaf, il est aussi un member du Verbier Festival Orchestra.


Alexander Pavtchinskii was born in Kiev, Ukraine. Together with his family Alexander immigrated to Madeira, Portugal when he was 6 years old. Mr. Pavtchinskii therefore started his musical studies at the Music Conservatory of Madeira, first with Maria Zita Gomes and then under the orientation of his mother Elena Kononenko.

Mr. Pavtchinskii studied in the renowned violin class of Prof. Zakhar Bron first in the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid (1999-2003) and later at the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater in Zurich, where he graduated in 2006 with distinction. Mr. Pavtchinskii’s broad interests led him to pursue a second Master’s degree in viola under virtuoso soloist and renowned pedagogue Michael Kugel (Gent Conservatorium) which he completed with the highest distinction in 2010. Mr. Pavtchinskii studied also conducting under Maestro Dirk Brossé.

Mr. Pavtchinskii is a prize winner in many competitions such as the 1st prize at the “Juventude Musical Portuguesa” in 1995, the 1st prize at the International Music Competition “Júlio Cardona” in 1997, the 1st prize at “Prémio Jovens Músicos” in Lisbon in 2003 and the Grand Prix at the “International Competition of Young Performes Madeira Forum” in 2011.

Mr. Pavtchinskii has performed as a soloist with some of the best Portuguese orchestras such as the Gulbenkian Orchestra of Lisbon, Madeira Classical Orchestra and Horta Camerata. An enthusiastic chamber musician, Mr. Pavtchinskii was a founding member of the Goldberg String Trio, which was enrolled at the Chapelle Musical Reine Elisabeth in Waterloo. He is a former member of the Artevelde String Quartet and is a regular collaborator with artists such and Alissa Margulis, Marc Bouchkov, Graf Mourja, Jacob Koranyi, Olsi Lela, Leo de Neve, Roland van Spaendonck, Timur Sergueenya or Stephane Ruty.

Alexander Pavtchinskii has performed in the following festivals: Viel Klang Sommer, Mozart Festival Waterloo, Aurora Chamber Music, Festival Juventus Cambrai, Verbier Music Festival, Salzburg Mozarteum Festival, Batumi Festival, Santander Music Festival and Madeira Music Festival.

Mr. Patvchinskii was a member of Verbier Festival Orchestra as well as a regular substitute in the National Orchestra of Belgium, Brussels Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre de Wallonie and Arco Baleno. Mr. Pavchinskii was also the principal violist of the Kamerorkest voor Vlanderen, Prima la Musica chamber orchestra and the ensemble Timur und Seine Mannschaft.

Mr. Pavtchinskii was during several years assistant professor of violin at the Artesis Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, Belgium and is regularly invited to hold Masterclasses both in Belgium and abroad.

Mr. Pavtchinskii is currently the Principal Viola of the Hulencourt Soloist Chamber Orchestra and Europalia Chamber Orchestra, as well a regular substitute in the Royal Flemish Philharmonic in Antwerp.
