Zofia Lalak, Polish – Belgian pianist, graduate from the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles ( Dominique Cornil, Siergey Leschenko ) and Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo ( Laura Richaud, Franco Scala ).
She had a chance to learn from internationally acclaimed artists such as Joaqin Achucarro, Jerome Rose, Leonid Margarius, Ian Hobson, Philippe Entremont, Cécile Ousset, Anne Queféllec, Diane Andersen, Alan Weiss, Katarzyna Popowa- Zydron at Ecole Normale Cortot, Prague piano festival, Tel Hai piano masterclasses, Queen Elisabeth Competition masterclasses, Misano Adriatico festival, Val Tidone festival. She has been awarded several prizes from the Polish, Italian and Belgian governments, as well as Prix Belvaux, Prix du Patrimoine and Sara Lahat prize.
For the past 20 years she has been performing intensively throughout Europe and in Israel ( Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, France, UK ) including recitals on fortepiano and romantic piano together with the contemporary repertoire performances.
Zofia’s pianistic skills have been especially appraised for her Chopin interpretations. After an intense year of the Chopin Bicentenary 2010 tour she also founded her own cycle of concerts » Chopin and Liszt- reciprocal influences » which was premiered in Paris in 2011.
As a chamber musician Zofia collaborated with renowned virtuosos: Igor Oistrach, Bruno Canino, Pierre Amoyal , Michael Kugel, Dora Schwarzberg, Domenico Nordio or Vera Vaidman. She is also keen on multidisciplinary projects such as performing with jazz musicians ( Lalak/Duda duo ), modern dancers ( Thomas Hauert ) or actors ( Jan Nowicki, Olgierd Lukasiewicz, Jerzy Zelnik ).
For the last years, Zofia has held the position of Vice President of the Keyboard Department and Piano Faculty member at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles .
Devoted and inspirational educator, she was successfully guiding Bachelor and Master students, obtaining brilliant academic results as well as receiving important recognition on the international level.
Her broad teaching experience includes working at several International and European Schools in Belgium and in Italy, both as a piano and music teacher. As a private tutor Zofia is a true ambassador for the ABRSM Curriculum. She has currently completed her ABRSM Examiner course.
A versatile speaker, teacher and performer, she has been twice invited to the Australasian Piano Conference: her lecture – recital representing the latest research on the art of phrasing received a very warm applause from a number of leading Australian, American and Asian pianists and professors.
Zofia is perfectly quadrilingual ( Fr/ En/ Pl/ It ). Her open- mindedness and emphatic attitude enables her to work with pupils of all cultural and musical backgrounds.
