Kim Joon

Kim Joon is a pianist presenting his impressive playing with his in-depth understanding on music and sophisticated sense. He both entered and graduated from the Seoul Arts High School as the top of his class. While he was still in high school, he attended the first preparatory school for the Korean National University of Arts and succeeded in entering the University, studied with Professor, Kim Dae-jin, and graduated with the distinction.
Afterwards, he moved to Germany he studied at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts with Professor, Robert Benz, and acquired the diploma. He also completed the chamber music course, developing his skills and understanding in a solo performance as well as chamber music. He continued his study at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts with Professor, Lev Natochenny and graduated from the Konzertexamen program with the distinction, laying a solid foundation to be an exceptional musician.
Since he was young, he has demonstrated his outstanding abilities by winning the nation’s numerous renowned competitions. While studying at the Korean National University of Arts, he won the first prize at the Dong-A Music Competition, the first prize and the special prize at the Busan Music Competition, the first prize at Ewha & Kyunghyang Concours, the first prize at the Music Association of Korea Competition, the first prize at Chosun Music Competition, the first prize at the Eumyoun Competition and the first prize at the Hankook Children’s’ Daily Music Competition among others. While studying at the Seoul Arts High School, he proved his competence as a pianist by winning the Proud Musician of the Seoul Arts High School.
When he was eleven, he gave his debut performance with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then, he played with KBS Symphony, Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra, Busan Philharmonic Orchestra, Gunsan Philharmonic Orchestra, Korean Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Arts High School Orchestra, Chungnam Philharmonic Orchestra. He also played with world famous orchestras such as WDR Rundfunk Orchestra, China National Symphony, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Belgium Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie. Moreover, Kim held several recitals including JM debut performance. Performing as a soloist in several performances and holding recitals, he has established himself nationally and internationally. Especially after moving to Germany, he began to distinguish himself by being awarded at the Concorso Internationale Pianistico Citta dei Marsala in Italy. Afterwards, he won the first prize at the Concurs Internacional de Piano D’Escaldes/Engordany Premi Pricipat d’Adorra, the second prize at Cologne International Music Competition, the third prize at the China International Piano competition, was awarded at the Leeds International Piano Competition, won the Semifinal Prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition and the fifth at the Japan Hamamatsu International Piano Competition as receiving international acclaims.
He also presented recitals in Italy, France, Spain, Andorra, China, Japan among others by invitation. When studying at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts, he was invited by Deutschland Radio Berlin Rundfunk and his playing was live broadcast nationwide via the radio. Since then, he was also invited by many music festivals including Frankfurt Alte Oper, Weilburger Schlosskonzerte, and Kurpfalzkonzert. In 2010, he was awarded at the China International Music Competition and with this opportunity, he had a tour in China. Those concerts received standing ovations, and favorable reviews. His concerts were introduced in numerous media including Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Piano News.
With powerful play, effective techniques, and profound musicality, Kim Joon has actively performed as a soloist with renowned national and international orchestras and joined the chamber music. Especially, for the 100th anniversary of Scriabin’s death, he held the entire sonata cycle of Scriabin for the first time in Korea through which he communicated with the audience based on a creative idea and abilities. Currently, he serves as a professor at the Kunsan National University.
